Edward Guinness, 4th Earl of Iveagh (born 1969), is head of the Guinness family, a co-founder of Venturewave and a member of the Venturewave Global Advisory Council. He is the great-great-grandson of Edward Cecil Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh (1847–1927).
Born and raised in Dublin, Edward studied business and agriculture before assuming responsibility for a diverse portfolio of agricultural, property and family interests. He served in the House of Lords from 1992 to 1999 and was affiliated with the Crossbenches, where his areas of interest included youth homelessness.
Edward has a longstanding involvement with the Guinness family’s Elveden estate and its agricultural enterprises in Suffolk. Elveden’s activities span farming, forestry, conservation, property and rural enterprise, reflecting his commitment to the responsible, long-term stewardship of land and natural resources.
He has served as a Trustee of The Iveagh Trust since 2011 and is a member of its Buildings and Communities Committee. Founded in Dublin in 1890 by the 1st Earl of Iveagh, the Trust is one of Ireland’s oldest housing charities. Edward’s involvement continues his family’s connection with social housing, community development and the preservation of Dublin’s architectural heritage.
In 2025, Edward and historian Antonia Hart co-authored Guinness: A Family Succession. Published by Batsford, the Irish Times bestseller examines the people, enterprise and successive generations behind the Guinness family’s development over more than two centuries.
A notable example of Edward’s investment approach was his backing of Blueface, the Dublin-based cloud communications company. He supported Alan Foy and Brendan Gaffney in acquiring and scaling the business as it expanded internationally. Blueface was subsequently acquired by Comcast Business in 2020. The investment demonstrates his approach to patient capital: backing experienced operators and helping Irish technology companies develop into internationally significant businesses.
As a co-founder of Venturewave and a member of its Global Advisory Council, Edward contributes experience in family enterprise, patient capital, responsible investment and multi-generational stewardship. The Council brings together limited partners in Venturewave’s Impact Ireland funds and provides a forum for strategic discussion between investors, entrepreneurs and international leaders.
His work with Blueface and Venturewave reflects his conviction that ambitious entrepreneurs can create internationally competitive businesses while delivering enduring value for investors and society.
